Authentic Sekiguchi Monchhichi Japanese Folktale Momotaro β Rare Japan Find
π Authentic Sekiguchi Monchhichi Japanese Folktale Momotaro β Rare Japan Find
A very special Monchhichi from Japan and one I was incredibly lucky to find. ππ
This is the Momotaro (Peach Boy) Monchhichi from the Japanese Folktale / Mukashibanashi series, dressed as the legendary hero from one of Japanβs best-known traditional folk stories.
He wears a beautiful red and gold brocade-style costume, decorated with peach motifs, with a matching white hachimaki-style headband featuring the peach emblem. The attention to detail is gorgeous β even the back of his outfit features a large embroidered-style peach motif, and his headband ties into a bow at the back.
I personally sourced this Monchhichi during my travels in Japan. I only came across him in one shop during the entire trip, and I havenβt seen another for sale there since, making him a particularly lovely find for a serious Monchhichi collector.

π About Momotaro
Momotaro β literally βPeach Boyβ β is the hero of a famous Japanese folktale. According to the story, he is discovered inside a giant peach and later sets off on an adventure accompanied by a dog, monkey and pheasant. This traditional theme makes this Monchhichi particularly charming as a piece of Japanese character culture rather than simply another outfit variation.
